What's now Delmar was first Adamsville, built up around hotelier Nathaniel Adams' 1836 hotel and his 1840 postmastership; postal confusion with Adams, New York forced a change to Adams Station, and by 1892 a resident petition settled on Delmar, following the name the Albany and Susquehanna Railroad had already given its local stop. Each of those eras left its own layer of housing behind.
