Latham's history is really the history of one intersection: Jonas Yearsley settled there in 1785, and the corner picked up a new name almost every generation after -- Yearsley's, Van Vranken's, Town House Corners -- before hotelier William G. Latham's name finally stuck, staying in use through his son James' ownership until 1933. As a hamlet within the Town of Colonie, Latham's built environment stretches from that 19th-century core out along Route 2's later commercial-residential corridor.
